Our Lilly monster is 6 months! She’s weighing a healthy 14 pounds and 14 ounces, and she’s about 27 inches long! She’s really starting to develop her motor skills. It’s amazing to see the day to day changes with her abilities to grab things, and she’s appearing to be more interested in using her legs to get around!!!! Grandma Malone gives Lilly all these fun toys, and she Lilly has a hard time deciding which one to hold. She gets so excited when we hand her toys that she snatches them out of our hands and instantly puts them in her mouth. We’re almost expecting her to say “MINE!”. She can scoot on her back to get to me, and she’s become the rolling monster we all knew she wanted to be! We play find mommy on the bed, and she rolls to get to me. It’s a great game! Paul plays a special game with her to get her to roll over. The best part about their game is she doesn’t realize she’s rolling over. Sometimes she complains that she’s on her tummy, but when she’s with daddy she’s all grins and giggles! The giggles are starting to come more frequent and last longer. Sometimes they come out of nowhere, and you wish you could repeat what ever it was that sparked them. She’s developed quite a range in her squeals and tones now. We go from soft little squeeks to all out ear piercing shrills! Lilly likes to scream with excitement at the cats, and they like to freak out and hide. The cats have become more courageous by laying beside her. Not only does she try to pet them, she tries to let them know just how happy she is they’re laying beside her. My orange cat, Kaiser, will tolerate the hair pulling and screaming for a while. The siamese cat will immediately freak out and run! Paul likes this form of torture for the siamese because they mutually dislike each other. Dolph, the siamese cat, will lay on top of Paul instead of on the bed or anywhere else there might be more room. I think he’s following the philosophy of keeping your friends close and enemies closer! So when Lilly is “loving” on Dolph, you can see how much Paul enjoys his misery! The “loving” on the cats is normally followed by the loud shrieks that makes them run and hide. Dolph especially hates the shrieks! She and I also like to play little indian baby. I can tap my hand over her mouth, and she likes to yell like a little indian baby! It’s tons of fun for everyone, and she really likes to do it in restaurants! She was trying to compete with a mariachi band at one of the local Mexican restaurants we like to visit. It made a few booths of families laugh! I think that she is one of the most expressive babies too. She has so many facial expressions, and you can really tell what mood she’s in! Not only can you tell the mood she’s in, you can watch her go from happy to ticked in about two seconds! Paul says that it’s the girl in her that allows her to change moods so quickly(hahaha!). She’s starting eating baby food now, and she really likes it! She has a tendancy to spray her food all over who ever is feeding her. I’ve been coated in squash and sweet potatoes so far. She’s one messy baby!!! We’ve also found out the she HATES green beans! She makes this nasty face and shakes in disgust when I tried to feed them to her!!! She’s already starting to get picky like her grandpa!!!!
She really is getting better with her motor skills. She clearly makes eye contact 100% of the time now. When she’s in her rear facing car seat I sometimes play peek-a-boo through the back and side window and she follows me. She’s also really starting to reach for things. She’s grabbed the TV remote and a cell phone out of my hands a few times. Unfortunately, she then stick whatever it is in her mouth. Just in case you were wondering, baby drool on the ear piece of a cell phone does not help the reception or make the sound travel any better.
I think Lilly is recognizing Tom when she first sees him because she sees him almost every week, but I think I’m still a stranger to her. She certainly warms up quickly, but doesn’t have that look that she knows who I am yet. She is such a light in our lives and brings smiles and laughter to our little family. I’m now looking forward to her crawling and putting her arms out to me, and of course her first Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. It really is exciting.
