We have been battling possums now for a while, and we were victorious tonight in our attempt to catch the darn thing! They like to eat the cat food that we have out on our front porch along with torturing the cats. We think that our cat Kaiser got into a fight trying to protect the food that he loved so much, and a possum may have killed him. Not real sure what did it, but they are on our list of suspects. So I happen to run into a possum on our back deck while putting up the barbeque utensils. I ended up kicking it off the porch literally, and it for some reason decided to stick around our planter bed. Well, it got captured! Paul was able to throw a plastic container over it so that we could release it to the wild somewhere away from the house in hopes it would find someone else to torture. Lilly was so funny through this whole thing calling it a monster and letting us know she was scared. She wasn’t the only one scared! I asked Tom to come help me, and he told me he wasn’t going to touch that darn thing! All I wanted him to do was hold the flashlight to keep the thing dazed so we could catch it! It was funny that he thought I was asking him to help Paul capture it because all of us that know anything about Tom is that he is willing to do almost anything for anyone! Now it took some debate as to what to do with the “monster”. I ended up winning in the end mostly because Paul’s idea of shooting it most certainly would have ended up with our neighbors calling the police on us. We released the “monster” into the wild on the other side of the busy highway about a mile or more from the house. It has plenty of wilderness to roam there along with other houses I’m sure that have cat food to eat! And if it tries to get back to our cat food, it has a busy highway with plenty of cars to battle to get back here!!! We caught a little of Lilly’s reaction to the “monster” on video. Hope all of you get a good laugh like she gave us! Enjoy!!!!

So I thought that we might be done with the possums, but I was wrong! Paul and I ended up catching the big one that we tried to catch a couple weeks ago (we hope!)!!! We can so write a book on all the ineffective ways to catch a possum! Paul is my hero!!! He even took it away to release it back into the wild somewhere else! The girls were asleep this time around, and Tom was already on his way home (not that he would help catch it anyways!!!) Our fingers are crossed for no more possums!
HEY YALL – GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE IN THE FAMILY WAS SUCCESSFUL IN CAPTURING MONSTER. I HAVE TWO TRAPS AND FROM MARCH UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST WE TRAPPED AROUND 70 CREATURES INCLUDING RACCOONS, OPPOSSUMS AND FERAL CATS. I OFFERED TO SEND YALL ONE OF THE TRAPS WHEN TAMMY & TOM WERE HERE BUT DIDN’T GET TAKEN UP ON THE OFFER. THE COONS WERE VERY MEAN AND BARKED LIKE DOGS AND WOULD SHRED THE BOWLS OR ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD GET THEIR PAWS ON AND WELL THE OPPOSSUMS BESIDES BEING THE UGLIEST CRITTERS GOD CREATED SNARLED AT US. ANIMAL CONTROL PICKED THEM UP UNTIL THE FIRST OF SEPT AND RELEASED THEM IN THE BOONIES BUT BECAUSE OF LACK OF FUNDS THEY DON’T PICK UP WILDLIFE ANYMORE SO STOPPED THE TRAPPING EXCEPT WHEN THE FERAL CAT POPULATION INCREASES. I CAN’T EVEN LET MY DOG OUT AT NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE COONS AND OPPOSSUMS BUT WITH THE PARK BEHIND US AND ALL THE TREES THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT SO HAVE TO WALK THE DOG IN THE FRONT. WE HAVE HAD A RABID COON IN OUR YARD A FEW YEARS AGO SO WON’T PUT MY DOG OR CAT IN DANGER OF MEETING UP WITH ONE OF THEM. I MUST ADMIT I ENJOYED THE TRAPPING – DON’T KNOW WHY BUT THINK IT MUST BE THE EVIL SIDE OF ME COMING OUT. WE ALSO CAUGHT 2 RATS IN THE TRAPS WHICH TELLS YOU HOW BIG THEY ARE BECAUSE IT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF WEIGHT TO SET OFF THE TRAPS. YALL BE CAREFUL CAUSE THOSE LITTLE CRITTERS ARE MEAN!!!! PAUL’S IDEA OF THE 22 IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO USE BUT OF COURSE THE LAW PROHIBITS IT. THE ONLY WAY WE CAN TAKE THE ANIMALS OFF THE PROPERTY NOW IS TO HAVE THEM EUTHANIZED AND I AM NOT GOING TO DO THAT. ANYWAY I REALLY LIKED LILLY’S CONCERN FOR THE MONSTER AND HER LACK OF FEAR WHILE GRANDPA WAS ON THE PORCH. IT IS GOOD TO KNOW SHE WILL BE THERE TO PROTECT TOM.
