Katelyn Noreen Part 2!

It’s been fun to reflect with Paul about the whole pregnancy and delivery this time compared to Lilly’s. I had such a great pregnancy with Lilly, and then the whole delivery was a roller coaster of emotions. We were so excited to get the go ahead with the doctor to get to the hospital, and then after being in labor for a while we got the news of a c-section. It was just something that we never thought would happen to us because the pregnancy had gone with no complications, and how could we be having problems now? So this time around, we knew that we had to have a c-section. Paul and I could plan for everything to days off, Lilly arrangements, and anything else one could need to do in order to get ready for a baby!  Tom and Tammy said they would take care of Lilly, and we thought it was important to have Lilly at the house as comfortable as possible knowing we were coming home to her! So, this time the delivery was a piece of cake, and the pregnancy was a little more difficult. We got the news literally a week or two before we found out I was pregnant that I have a blood clotting problem called Factor V Leiden along with something abbreviated called MTHFR. The blood clotting disorder was countered with a daily injection in my stomach of a blood thinner, and I got put on special prenatal vitamins for the MTHFR. Basically I clot too easily and don’t metabolize folic acid on my own. These are all things needed to be corrected if we wanted to have a successful pregnancy! So the correcting we worked on, and it made every day a little more interesting. Since I had a c-section with Lilly, I knew what I was getting into. I got to pick my doctor which was a must for vanity reasons along with helping my comfort level. So the day finally arrived, and Paul and I were off to have Katie! The surgery went well and fast with no problems. Katie came out with a nice little cry, and the roller coaster of fear to excitement just wasn’t there. I went in completely relaxed and extremely excited. She looked so healthy and adorable!  She weighed 7 more ounces than Lilly, and she was just slightly shorter than Lilly. I recovered quickly, and we got a room pretty fast. This was all different from last time, but it was completely welcomed! I still had wonderful nurses like last time, and I do believe that Northside Hospital is the best place to have a baby!!!!!! The one thing Paul and I kept telling each other was we wished Lilly could be there for all of this. She got to come up the next day with her Nana and Papa, and it just made everything feel like we had a whole family. Lilly insisted the baby was hers, and she was just so sweet with Katie. She rubbed her head, hugged her, and gave Katie kisses. She also tried to play peek-a-boo with Katie, but Katie just isn’t as responsive as any of the rest of us! Now there are serious differences between the girls. Lilly is all energy and noise, and Katie is little to no noise along with just a passive observer. Lilly was loud from the beginning, and Katie really has been so quiet. Hopefully this is how things stay! It’s been nice to be home now with everything our way, and it’s been even more wonderful to have Tom and Tammy up here to help out with Lilly and food! So now we begin this new phase in our family, and I’m so thankful for our healthy girls. I feel completely blessed to have a wonderful husband who really is the most caring father. Our girls have brought out the best in him, and he’s just made me so happy to have him in my life. Now the trick for me is to figure out how to devote the same amount and quality of time with everyone!
