We just celebrated Lilly’s 2nd Birthday! It’s hard to believe how fast times flies with her now. Paul and I sometimes talk about how those first couple of months felt like years, and now that she’s pretty independent time just speeds by! We decided to do a party for Lilly at Chuck E Cheese so that the kids had something to do. It always seems to rain on her party day, and this year was no different. We had a monsoon! So, who wouldn’t like pizza and games?! I know that the majority of the parents looked forward to going more than the kids! It was great. Lilly got quite a few dress up clothes along with learning toys too. Her vocabulary is really starting to take off! Lilly was thrilled to have everyone there, and pizza was great. The best part was there was no mess at our house!!!!! I made a Finding Nemo cake for her birthday, and thought that it would be just so easy to make. Well, it would have been easy to make if Lilly hadn’t been the “helper” she normally tries to be. So I was making the cake, and I had 3 different sized pans to accomodate the cake. I can only fit two pans in my oven at a time ( I wish that I had two ovens most days, but Paul would expect me to use them more often!). So while the first two cakes were on the cooling racks, I had the third and final in the oven. I happen to be on the phone getting a recipe for frosting from a friend, and I noticed Lilly kept running back and forth from the bedroom with me to the kitchen. I assumed that it was her sandwich she was finishing up, but I very soon discovered it was the cakes that were supposed to be cooling. Well, she destroyed the cakes. I ended up having to cut the small cake up to patch the largest cake. Also, I had no more butter or cake mixes left. Well, to the store we went for the second time that day. It was one of those situations where either you laughed it off or it made you mad. I laughed it off because it really was her cake. She just wanted it sooner than I wanted her to have any! Well, we recovered from the cake incident, and I had the bottom two layers frosted just waiting for that top layer to be cool enough to frost also. Well, I turned my back again. This was my second big mistake for the day. I looked over at my child who was at this point sitting on the table with the cake and frosting, and she was blue! Well, I thought there was no way she ate the cake because she had a big bowl of frosting sitting right next to her. WRONG!!!! Lilly grabbed a handful of cake with frosting. So, I had to patch the cake again with the original little layer. I’m so glad I didn’t throw it away. This time, I made sure that Lilly understood no more cake! I still laughed it off because last year she could have cared less about eating cake. This year it seemed to be the only thing on her mind! Well, Nemo finally turned out after hours of what I thought would be a simple cake to make! So next year, I’m dropping the girls off with the grandparents while I drive myself crazy with cakes! I’ll post more about Lilly when we go to the doctor this week!
