As the title suggests, it is another First Day of School, but for Lilly it’s the last first day of high school. To keep this up, I might have to photoshop her in the picture for the next 2 years until Katie graduates. Joe Biden is president. The summer Olympics just finished; the US took the most medals (126). The most popular song on the radio is A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey. The most popular movie is Deadpool & Wolverine.
Lilly is 17, a senior in high school, and starting to think about college and life away from home. I don’t think she understands how much ramen is in her future yet. It’s a lot of ramen. Like, a lot. Otherwise, she’s doing good. Taking a light load in school and getting some tutoring for the SAT/ACT coming up soon. The car is still in one piece, so I guess that’s exceeding expectations.
Katie is 15, a sophomore in high school, and still pursuing volleyball. She made the high school JV team and the regional club team. Club hasn’t started yet, but JV practiced almost every day this summer and games start soon. This summer she even went to a volleyball camp at Emory. What little I saw, the girls were very good, but all I heard about the whole drive home was the cafeteria food. Apparently, they have amazing ice cream. Much like Lilly, Katie hasn’t been inspired to get her drivers permit yet. We’ve been steadily reminding her Lilly won’t be here next year, but the bus will be.
I’m still playing tennis once or twice a week and coming off some good seasons. In USTA, my team has won state 3 years in a row and in ALTA, we just won city to get the big plate. Unfortunately, I haven’t been as fortunate in the annual neighborhood softball game. My team managed to finish second only losing by 1 run; I blame some bad intel from the other captains during the draft.
