After a few days of digging, 4 blisters, 3 scrapes, 6 gallons of Coke and 2 mental breakdowns we think we figured out what we want. We think building (3) two-and-a-half foot tall walls will break the slope well and maintain a nice appearance. The delimiah came when deciding where to place the walls. You don’t want to arbitrarily place them or you could be moving A LOT of dirt; if you know how tough it is to dig in Georgia clay then you know that’s not an attractive option. I think we spent the better part of an entire day with me holding a level line and my father holding a 2×4 to measure height of existing grade and a cup of lime to mark the proposed wall. After digging a test trench to model the proposed height of one of the new levels we quickly decided this would take A LOT of digging to cut out the terraces, so it was decided to bring in some heavy equipment to cut the walls and move the dirt.
